Three days after the SureStep™ arrived, I had what I can only describe as a life-changing moment.
I was sitting in my favorite chair, watching the evening news, when I realized I needed to get up to use the bathroom.
Out of habit, I almost called out: "Can someone help me—"
But then I stopped. I looked down at the SureStep™ beside me.
"Just try it," I told myself.
I positioned both handles, took a breath, and pushed myself up.
And I stood. Completely on my own.
For the first time in years, I didn't need to call anyone's name. I didn't need to wait for someone to drop what they were doing. I didn't need to see that flash of worry cross anyone's face.
I just... stood up.
I'm not ashamed to admit it - I got emotional. Standing there in my living room, alone, I felt something I hadn't felt in so long:
I felt like myself again.
Not the burden. Not the patient. Not the one everyone had to help.
Just... me.
That night, I used the bathroom three more times without calling for help once. Each time felt like a small victory. Each time, I felt a little more of my dignity returning
.
For the first time in months, my family could relax. And so could I.
